There are a lot of Publications and many pediatricians recommend that as soon as possible to teach children how to sleep alone. I state that I believe is right and I practiced with my son right away, but I have to make a cultural reflection in this regard. The stay only means that autonomy, in turn, implies independence. This according to our culture, we teach children the autonomy through independence, understood as individuality and freedom to think, say and do on their own.
There are cultures other hand, in contexts of high economic and cultural development such as Japan, where instead of the concept of independence is taught to children as interdependence, namely the move in a social group where no one can impose all ‘ another to do what you want but you can not express our opinion and possibly influence with our reasons for their behavior. The interdependence, cooperation, belonging to a group, all concepts, in particular sleep, do not require the children sleep alone.
The children, who sleep with their mother in Japan throughout the early childhood, thus developing a sense of belonging to the family, relate and understand the sense of being with others. The Japanese think in fact that the baby is born and separate individual, with the teaching time, learn to establish interdependent relationships. Practically the opposite of what we think we, the young are born and learns to be self-dependent.
