How to tell the children to poverty

The place where I took the photo tour, a stairway in Trastevere on a Sunday in September a few years ago. The contrast is evident, along with a father happy and playful with their child, both well dressed, you see the homeless, instead of the regular customers, at least in warm weather. And if you find yourself in this situation with a child who asks questions and will have, what you are saying?

How to explain in a few simple words the despair of a company that makes the poor, homeless and marginalized? Why is a way to avoid certain places, the suburbs and ugly degraded but this is the center of Rome, the usual destination of tourists and Romans in the Sunday excursion.
