Eating disorders in pregnancy

Have you ever heard of girl who eats soap? He’s on Pinkblog discussed some time ago and even though in this case we want to talk about another kind of strange food, it is still the same ailment that doctors call pica. It is a type of eating disorder that leads to eating substances that lack nutritional value and not necessarily food but also to fixate on certain foods that make us more than others throat, making it nearly employees. Sometimes it comes to junk food. Sometimes the junk real.

The Week wondered what causes pregnant women to eat junk food. Experts are alarmed because the disorder is more common in pregnancy. We all know that sometimes we are irresistibly drawn to combinations which under normal conditions we would never have considered eating, because the sense of taste can be altered and desires, you know, to be met. But this is something else. Sera Young, cited the article, wrote a book that focuses on this issue and explained that the first definition comes from the Latin, by the habit of eating earth. Today it is called geophagy.

Scientists who have studied this trend among pregnant women explained, while not to define a specific reason, that the earth contains many minerals including calcium, iron, magnesium, all useful in keeping at bay the annoying morning sickness. Other women rather eat chalk, talcum powder, soap. This phenomenon is very widespread, almost worldwide. Less common in Denmark, where only 0.01% to suffer, more so in countries like Kenya, where the percentage rises to 56%.

Experts say, however, that there are serious risks of a bad constipation, because the earth is in fact easy to digest and there is more or less the same level of bacteria that we can find some ‘everywhere in our daily lives, each surface. For the rest, it’s all a matter of taste.
