Children should be weaned at four months

Every so often the old certainties need to be reviewed: a recent study published in the British Medical Journal reviewed nearly fifty studies on weaning babies stating that in fact the weaning should begin in four months rather than six, as recommended so far by international guidelines and approved.

The six months, the researchers said, could be maintained in developing countries where it is more difficult to access food and water contamination that may compromise the health of infants while in Western countries may be more elastic and the first to introduce solid foods in the diet of children already after the first few months.

It is true, as demonstrated by extensive research and many recommendations that breast milk is a powerful food that can guarantee complete nutrition, growth and lower risk of infection, but in reality the children who start earlier weaning not been shown to suffer in any way . Of course the final choice is still left to the mothers, at least for now.
